Dan Wallace met Bob Butta when he was still in high school. Along with being impressed with Bob’s fluency within the jazz language, Dan loved the fact that Bob embodied an ideal when it came to performance standards within a jazz context. Bob was able to teach songs to Dan on the bandstand because Bob laid the melody, harmony, and time feel out so clearly that Dan could just use his ears to learn the song at hand.

As time went by Dan and Bob formed a very fruitful professional relationship that continues to this day. Dan is building his reputation as a notable Baltimore area saxophone player who can function within many contexts. Swinging jazz standards is a very important context in which Dan operates, and no one swings harder than Bob with his collaborator Frank Russo on drums.
