G. Thomas Allen (affectionately called “Sir Thomas Allen”), Morgan State University alum returns to his alma mater to headline a “Pre-Homecoming” event, on the heels of winning the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Regarded as the first and only male, in history, to hold the prestigious SASSY Award – Downbeat Magazine.
Thomas’ work spans to multi-genres and redefining career possibilities of his voice category. Distinguished as being a part of the historic “first trio of African American countertenors to appear together in an opera production” (Los Angeles Times/Los Angeles Opera), Thomas takes his place amongst The Enduring Legacy of Black Singers in Opera, as noted by the Metropolitan Opera Guild. He is also lead singer on Grammy nominated album, “Choirmaster,” performing an arrangement of “Let There Be Peace on Earth” (Motown Gospel) with over 1M views on YouTube. He has worked with jazz influencers such as David Baker, Bobby Broom, and Marquis Hill. In 2020, Thomas’ self-titled debut album hit No. #1 on the iTunes jazz charts. Currently, the band is working on a sophomore project, Reimagined Dream. A lead single, Cookie Jar, was released at the top
of the year and already making waves with its iconic tagline, “You’ve been tempted by the cookie jar!”

Opening for the evening is acclaimed spoken word artist, songwriter and philanthropist–and Morgan State alum–Wordsmith.
