BCJS Presents Stefon Harris & Blackout

“His music needs no labels like ‘postmodern’ or ‘cutting edge.’ It is Stefon Harris music,
just as Charles Mingus’s was unmistakably Mingus music” (JazzTimes). Harris’s
passionate artistry and astonishing virtuosity have propelled him to the forefront of the
jazz scene. Heralded as “one of the most important artists in jazz” (The Los Angeles
Times), he was the 2018 recipient of the Doris Duke Artist Awards. He has also
received the prestigious Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center, earned four
GRAMMY™ nominations, and was named Best Mallet player eight times by the
Jazz Journalists Association. He was also chosen Best Vibes in the 2018 and 2017
DownBeat Critic’s Poll.
