Jazz in Lafayette Square Honoring Billie Holiday

The Billie Holiday Project for Liberation Arts at Johns Hopkins, an initiative designed to preserve African American archives, history and culture in Baltimore, hosts a free music concert in Lafayette Square in homage to Billie Holiday.

We hope to return the performance of classic jazz to its origins in historic African American communities. We believe that the free, public performance of our best, noblest music is integral to our resurrection, intellectual and spiritual. We also want to create a Baltimore of broad public civic and cultural engagement.

The Billie Holiday Jazz Concert at Lafayette Square takes place on September 7, 2019 between 2 and 6pm in Lafayette Square Park (W Lafayette and N Arlington). The concert lineup features vocalist Sheila Ford, Sean Jones (trumpet), Nasar Abadey (percussion), Richard Johnson (piano), and Ameen Saleem (bass), along with a special set by the Jamal Moore Trio.
