A new member of the BJA board is Jacquelyn Slade, a passionate activist and jazz musician who works to empower others through political advocacy and musical performance. She is a student majoring in Political Science at Johns Hopkins University and in Jazz Voice at Peabody Conservatory.
She believes that that her unique experiences in politics and as a jazz vocalist and flutist makes her uniquely suited to assist in the work of the Baltimore Jazz Alliance. She seeks to fortify the bridge between politics and jazz and make jazz musicians aware of the grants and other resources available to them.
She has experience in the fields of education, arts, government, and non-profits and brings several essential fundraising skills to the BJA. Her writing skills —press releases, interviews, social media, and graphic design—will also serve the organization’s communications mission.
In the political realm, Jacquelyn has been active as Co-President of the League of Women Voters of Carroll County, as Campus Student Director for Hopkins Votes, and as a staff member for numerous political campaigns.
As a musician, enjoys jazz, musical theatre, and pop music. Jacquelyn’s interest in music grew through her experience in jazz band with Carl Grubbs, the Baltimore Jazz Legend. Jacquelyn has performed at various venues in Baltimore, including the Eubie Blake Cultural Center, An Die Musik, and Peabody Conservatory. She feels that her love of jazz and of nonprofit work will be an asset for the Baltimore Jazz Alliance.
Welcome, Jackie!
