BJA Accomplishments

Here are some of the many ways that YOUR support of the Baltimore Jazz Alliance is serving the Baltimore jazz community:

  • Jazz Fest x AFRAM
    • We are partnering with the AFRAM Festival, with artists representing BJA on Sunday, June 18th celebrating the BJA’s 20th year!
  • Collaborating with Bromo Art Walk
    • The BJA recommends musicians to venues who participate in Bromo Art Walk, usually held twice a year. We have partnered with Current Space, Hippodrome, Maienfels Biergarten, and Black Genius Art Show to sponsor live jazz.
  • Arch Social Club
    • BJA hosted a membership drive, where if people donated to Arch Social Club, they would become a BJA member
  • Jazz for Kids
    • This program began in 2006. Jazz musicians go to schools (from elementary to middle schools) and libraries to talk about all things jazz, perform, and engage kids. An “instrument petting zoo” allows younger children the opportunity to get their hands on instruments (with drums always being the top hit)
    • This has taken place five times in the month of April 2023, as we have paid a visit to five Baltimore county libraries
  • Member Grants
    • BJA members have the opportunity to write grant proposals for projects. We have funded outdoor concerts, albums, and many other projects!
  • Misc. Funding
    • The BJA provided $500 in funding for repairs to instruments at Lakeland Elementary & Middle School, where saxophonist Gregory Thompkins teaches.
