In case you hadn’t heard, applications are now open for jazz performers (along with classical, dance, fashion, and more) for Artscape 2019. Note that these applications are for performances NOT on the main stages – those applications closed several months ago, and will be opening soon for 2020. While they could, in theory, book a jazz group for one of the main stages, they seem to like to differentiate and make a whole separate process. We could argue the merits of that, but for whatever reason, that is how they do it – at any rate, it gives us jazz artists a chance to apply for additional slots independent of the main stage slots.
In fact we’ve been talking with BOPA (Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts) about bringing more jazz to Artscape, and they seemed to be very receptive to our ideas. More on that later, as plans develop, but for now, they encouraged us to spread the news that jazz applicants are very welcome, and to please apply!
Note too that they’ve changed their application process so that now, a single application covers not only Artscape, but also the Baltimore Book Festival and Light City (which are now combined into one event, November 1 – 3).
So please, let’s get some more jazz into these events! Submit your application at: https://promotionandarts.submittable.com/submit/3cfd0f8b-1f41-4144-8715-8cad87d6f330/2019-festivals-performing-arts-application. The deadline to submit a proposal is Monday March 11, 2019 at 11:59pm.
If you need some help, BOPA will be holding Information Sessions on January 24th, February 11th, and March 2nd. Here’s a link to the first one: http://promotionandarts.org/2019-festivals-information-session-motor-house
